Kybartai 1905

Кибарты / Kibarty (now Kybartai, Lithuania)
This is a postcard sent in 1905 from Кибарты / Kibarty (now Kybartai, Lithuania), Сувалк. г.(Suvalki Gubernia) as you can see on the cancellation. The inscription of the postcard says: Wirballen (german name for Virbalis) - Вержболово / Verzhbolovo (russian name for Virbalis, probably originating from the polish name Wierzbołów). This is because the Germans concidered Kybartai as a part of Virbalis because of the railway station , but in fact, Kybartai was listed as a separate village under the Imperial Russian authority and had its own cancellation. The russian orthodox church on the picture was in the present Kybartai.
