Vilnius 1926
This is a postcard sent in 1926 from Wilno (now Vilnius, Lithuania) to Dordrecht, Netherlands. The picture shows the church of the Holy Trinity of the Basilian Monastery taken by the photographer Jan Bułhak. The card has not been franked for the regular postcard postal tariff but as "Druki", meaning "printed matter" in Polish.

Church of the Holy Trinity (Greek Catholic denomination, Ausros Vartu gatve 7, Vilnius) was a beautiful church before World War 2 but church building was damaged and lost a beautiful central domed tower.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad appearance now.
I don't know when the central domed tower is rebuilt.
I totally agree with you! I think the administration should be funding the reconstruction, not only because it is a beautiful piece of architecture but also for having a significant historical value. By the way, Adam Mickiewicz was once imprisoned here when it was used as prison by the Russian authority.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYou have a very rare photo of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with central dome in Vilnius which I've been looking for long time.
If it is possible, would you post more photos of Holy Trinity Uniate Church with central dome in Vilnius?
Also, I'm looking for photos of the Vladimir's Orthodox Church (Estonian language: Wladimeri kirik) in Narva-Joesuu, Estonia, which was built in 1893 by architect A. Ivanov but sadly it was destroyed during the World War 2 or after World War 2 by the communists.
These were beautiful church photos but it is very rare to see nowadays.
Thank you.
