Salakas 1898

Солоки/Soloki, Ковенская Губерния / Kovenskaya Guberniya (Kovna Gubernia)

Arrival cancel of Вилыкомıр / Vilkomir

Таврогины/Tavroginy Volost administration office

This is a stampless official administrative cover sent in 1898 from Солоки / Soloki (now Salakas, Lithuania) to Вилыкомıр / Vilkomir (now Ukmergė, Lithuania). The sender is the Таврогины / Tavroginy (now Tauragėnai, Lithuania, not to be confused with Таурогенъ/Taurogen - Tauragė) Volost administration office which Salakas was part of. It has a nice seal on the back with a coat of arms of Kovna Gubernia. Volost is a Russian administration subdivision which roughly corresponds to a county.

Salakas 1969

Salakas postmark still in old type in 1969 while Zarasai already had the new one

Nice arrival cancel of Zarasai

This is a registered cover sent in 1969 from Салакас / Salakas to Зарасай / Zarasai within Lithuania SSR. For some reason, the registration label has a light blue color which is pretty unusual. Salakas is small town in Utena county with a population of approximately 500. It has a beautiful and majestic neo-gotico-romanesque church totally worth visiting just for this.
