Palanga 1943

This is a stampless official use registered cover sent in 1943 from Polangen (now Palanga, Lithuania) to Berlin, Germany. The sender is the Dienstpostzweigamt Polangen, a branch of Dienstpost Ostland post offices which was the postal authority of the region during the German occupation in large part of Lithuania. The term "postlagernd" is the equivalent of Poste-restante.

Palanga 1912

A German made art postcard using very fine paper sent in 1912 from Поланген/Polangen (now Palanga, Lithuania) during the Imperial Russian rule. The beach in the artwork is probably not Palanga but it matches because it is famous for its beach! Palanga's appearance in historic source is surprisingly old. A German Tutonic chronicle mentions that King Valdemar I of Denmark captured a castle of Curonian tribe in Palanga in 1161, but historical fact shows us that unlike Tallinn, it wasn't a full scale invasion and the Danes had no intention to stay there to claim its territorial possession.

Vilnius 1941

This is a postal stationery sent on 3 January 1941 from Vilnius C. (Centrinis Paštas/Central post office) to Istanbul, Turkey. Vilnius has been re-occupied by the Soviets on June 1940 and annexed within the Soviet Union itself on 3 August as Lietuvos Tarybų Socialistinė Respublika (Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic), which you can see on sender's address written underneath the picture of Palanga "Vilnius L.T.S.R.". The stamps and postal stationery from the previous Republic was still postally valid with the rate of 1 Litas = 90 Soviet Kopecks (1 Litas is 100 Centas, 1 Soviet Ruble is 100 Kopecks).

Palanga 1926

This is a postcard used locally as "printed matter" within Palanga in 1926. You can see that the  famous ponton was smaller back then.

Kretinga 1892

Кретинген / Kretingen (now Kretinga, Lithuania)

This is a postal stationery sent in 1892 from Кретинген / Kretingen (now Kretinga, Lithuania), Ковен.Г.(Ковенская Губерния/Kovna Gubernia). In some reason, this postcard has been forwarded to the post office in Поланген / Polangen (now Palanga, Lithuania) in Курлянд. Г.(Kurland Guberniya), as you can see on the slightly bigger cancellation.

Palanga 1888

Поланген / Polangen (now Palanga, Lithuania)

Unfortunately due to pencil writing, the adress is not visible but the cancellation stayed almost intact! This is a poscard sent in 1888 from Поланген / Polangen (now Palanga, Lithuania) in Курлянд. Г./Kurland Guberniya. Polangen was one of the very few places in present Lithuania that used to belong to Kurland (now Kurzeme, Latvia).
